Q.How long are the pieces and where do I buy them?
A. The curbing is not in sections or pieces. The breaks you see approximately every 3 to 4 feet are expansion joints. The curbing is continuous and installed on each job site. Please refer to “Process” page.

Q.Will you remove any existing edging such as plastic, timbers or pavers?
A. Yes, we remove and haul away existing edging.

Q.Can I have continuous concrete curbing installed if I have a sprinkler system near by edging?
A. Yes, the homeowner is responsible for doing a walk through to mark any sprinkler heads that are in the edging area. Many times the curbing can be done with the sprinklers not being an issue, however there are a few occasions when the sprinkler falls directly in the path at which time the homeowner is responsible to have the head moved.

Q . How deep do you dig and how deep is the footing?
A . We cut about 2” deep by 12” wide. This can be done without disturbing your existing planters. This is not a footing as the curb is concrete and is its own footing.

Q . Do you offer a maintenance program for your landscape edging?
A . Yes, we seal the concrete after install and recommend sealing annually. Sealer provides a layer that protects concrete and helps maintain color integrity and shine. Applying sealer each year will help ensure your landscape curbing will look great for years to come. We can provide this service for you or you can purchase a concrete sealer from you local hardware store and apply with a garden sprayer. If you want to use the sprayer again, be sure to buy the proper cleaner listed on the sealer instructions for sprayer clean up.

Q.What about frost and ground movement?
A . The benefit of our concrete curbing is that it is a continuous piece of concrete. Individual blocks or bricks will shift over time and in the winter. Our curb is fiber mesh reinforced which adds strength to the curb. We cut expansion joints every 3 to 4 feet about 40% into the curb. This is designed to control the cracking of the curb during shifting periods and colder months. When the curb cracks it should crack in the expansion joint and not be noticeable.

Q. How messy is the installation?
A. One can expect a small amount of post-installation debris. Curbs Unlimited thrives on making sure the areas are cleaned well before leaving a job site.

Q. Is the color painted or stained on the curb?
A. All of the colors are iron oxide pigments that are mixed into the concrete during the mixing process. The color will not flake off or disappear over time. You may experience a little fading, but this is normal in any outdoor color application. A sealer can aid in the lifetime of the color, we recommend sealing every year.

Q. What kind of base is placed underneath the curb?
A. We make sure the base under the curb is compacted and level. We may put a small layer of sand under the curb to ensure the level of the curb. If the curb should settle a little the expansion joints should control the cracking.

Q. Will the curbing crack?
A. We experience very little cracking. However, concrete will crack and we take every precaution to limit the cracking and control it with expansion joints. If a crack should occur outside the joint we are able to repair the curb.

Q. Does the weather effect when continuous concrete curbing can be installed?
A . Yes, temperature does affect the time frame when concrete curbing can be installed. Our season varies between March and November depending on the ground freezing and thawing.
